IYH TEACHING DIRECTOR UPDATE FOR 2018 TRIP

JANE HALSALL - IYH EDUCATION DIRECTOR REPORTS ON 2018 VISIT

Another hugely successful trip to Nepal due to the outstanding organisation and patience of Jo Pawley.

Great to see our schools again, some of which I hadnt visited for 2 years. Huge headway has been made at Gorkha where it is really shaping into the kind of school we were hoping for. I loved the nurturing atmosphere in the library, where pupils can sit and read and where good use can be made of the computers and tv. I know the staff and pupils at Blessed Sacrament Prinary in Liverpool are immensely proud of what their contribution has helped to achieve. The improvement in the pupils confidence in speaking English in this school was noteable. Im sure  we can'attribute some of this success to the great volunteers and the teacher's training.  Now we know what we can achieve in one school we can go forward with confidence to achieve this in the remaining 5.

We received a warm'welcome at all schools and it is lovely to recognise the same faces in staff and pupils year on year. It really makes me feel we are building relationships with the people in the communities. As the fabric of the schools improves so does the moral of the teachers and pupils. I really feel the teachers training programme delivered by Vanessa and Annu is key to this. Investing in the people is even more important than investing in the bricks and mortar. It is really starting to feel like we are part of their journey. One that I hope will go on for a long time.
