IYH STRATEGY FOR 2016 - 2017

SUMMARY OF IYH STRATEGY WITH MANDALA ORGANISATION (MO) FOR APRIL TO APRIL 2016

HOW MANY SCHOOLS
In partnership with MO we will will build, repair and furnish 5 schools in the worst affected areas of Nepal, four of which are in very remote areas and it is unlikely these schools would be re-built without our help . Each school will be twinned with a British School.

BRITISH AND NEPAL SCHOOL LINKS
These projects are being created with the future in mind. A British school that fund raises to help a significantly disadvantaged school in Nepal will not only help to rebuild their school lives, they can be part of their future. They can stay in touch through the Internet. Children can share education projects, ideas, games and interests. How do you get to school each day? What religious festivals to you celebrate? What games to you play? What are your seasons like? The list goes on. The children on both sides of the world will benefit.

There is also huge potential for Nepal to benefit from the British teachers sharing some of their teaching methods and curriculum. This will be much easier once we have volunteer teachers in place.

COMMUNICATION BETWEEN UK AND NEPAL
There will be an iPad for one dedicated teacher at each school in Nepal so that communication by email, video and images can start between the British and Nepal schools. Milan and Shanta from The Mandala Organisation will help this to happen by setting up a private FACEBOOK page for each set of twinned schools. Social media at its best. The portability of the iPad means that the teacher can go to a wifi zone once a week or once a month and send and receive information regularly.

The Nepal schools will also receive computers. These can be used as teaching aids. Once wifi is available from each school directly, the infrastructure will be there to handle it.

FINANCE: Each British school will fund raise to help their Nepalese twinned school. IYH has already raised a substantial amount of cash thanks to the support of so many people. This cash will be used to subsidise the funds needed by each British school to twin with their Nepalese school. There are independent fundraising events and companies that have also linked to a specific school project. Any surplus money will be used for a nutrition project in Gorkha and uniforms. IYH have long term projects for nutrition and sanitary projects as well as education. All three areas are important to an all round healthy childhood.
